Laser hair removal in PCOD

Laser Hair Removal & PCOD: All you need to know about Laser Hair Removal in PCOD/PCOS

What is PCOD?

Polycystic Ovarian Disease (PCOD) is a hormonal issue that affects women during their childbearing years (ages 15 to 44). Poly- means many, cyst is a fluid type formation in the ovaries that causes irregularity in the hormones and the disease further leads to various bodily, skin and hair disorders. Women suffering from PCOD have multiple small cysts built up in their ovaries. These cysts take place when there are persistent disruptions in a normal menstrual cycle. The ovary gets expanded in size; and forms enormous amounts of hormones called androgen and estrogen. This excess in hormone production, together with the absence of ovulation, may even cause infertility.

Other names for PCOD are Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) or less commonly the Stein-Leventhal syndrome.

The ailment dealing with hormonal irregularity, Polycystic Ovarian Disease (PCOD) has become a great matter of concern among several women today. An estimated of 2.2 and 26.7 % of females in this age group have PCOD. What is more scornful about the situation is that many women who have PCOD/PCOS do not even know it. In one study conducted, it was revealed about 70 % of females with PCOD hadn’t been diagnosed and were unaware of the PCOD attack on them.

The ovaries disperse eggs to be fertilized by a man’s sperm. The process of releasing of an egg that occurs each month is called ovulation. As mentioned, PCOD affects a female’s ovaries, the reproductive organs that produce estrogen and progesterone — hormones that systemize the menstrual cycle turn upside down thus, weakening a women’s competency of conceiving.

Ovulation is controlled by the respective hormones called Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) ovulation. FSH prompts the ovary to produce a follicle which is a fluid-filled sac that contains an egg and then LH stimulates the ovary to release a mature egg. The lack of ovulation alters the production of progesterone, estrogen, FSH, and LH by lowering their levels, whereas levels of androgen are higher than usual. Extra male hormones upsets the monthly period cycle, as an outcome women with PCOD get fewer periods than usual.

Hence, the main features symbolizing PCOD or an array of symptoms that affects the ovaries and ovulation are:

  • Cysts build up in the ovaries
  • Production of high levels of male hormones (androgen estrogen)
  • irregular or skipped menstruation

It is utterly important to get oneself checked for figuring out ,if or if not, you have PCOD/PCOS or other symptoms of hormonal balance that can have a sizeable effect on overall functioning and appearance of a female body.

Diagnosis of PCOD or PCOS

Before learning about the clinical diagnosis of PCOD, note that not all patients with PCOD will have all or any of the discernible symptoms of hormonal imbalance. Sometimes, it requires a proper diagnosis to confirm PCOD that includes a vaginal ultrasound, which exposes to view that both the ovaries are enlarged; the bright central ovarian stroma is increased; and there are numerous small cysts in the ovaries. These cysts are generally assembled taking a shape of a necklace along the rim of the ovary. It is however crucial for the doctor to differentiate polycystic ovaries from multicystic ovaries.

Blood tests also play a critical role for making the diagnosis. Essentially, blood levels of hormones exhibit a high level of LH (luteinising hormone); and a normal FSH level (follicle stimulating hormone) (this is termed as reversal of the LH: FSH ratio, which is usually 1:1); and increased extent of androgens ( a high dehydroepiandrosterone sulphate ( DHEA-S) level).

Symptoms of PCOD

Some females began realizing symptoms around the time of their first period. While others only are able to track down they might have PCOD after they’ve had difficulty getting pregnant or they have seen changes in skin and hair unlooked for.

The most common symptoms or group of symptoms that can indicate of PCOD or PCOs are as follows:-

  • Irregular periods: the lack of ovulation obstructs the uterine lining from shedding every month. Some females with PCOD even have fewer than eight periods a year, while some get periods each month but that scantly near to Naught.
  • Heavy bleeding: The uterine lining form for an extended period of time, so the periods some females get can be much… Much heavier than usual.
  • Weight gain: Women with PCOD are commonly overweight or obese. Up to 80% of women with obesity or fatigue are diagnosed with PCOD.
  • Male-pattern baldness: Some women get the horrifying effects of shifting hormones in way of steadily getting bald and hair thinning. Hair on the scalp get so thinner that they fall out and gradually cause wide parting, scanty scalp, patterned baldness.
  • Hair growth: While some women lose out on the lovely, desirable locks from the scalp, some suffering with this condition grow hair on their face and body including on their belly, back and chest. This type of Excess hair growth in women is called hirsutism. More than 70 percent of women with PCOD show sign of excessive facial and body hair growth.
  • Acne: Higher levels of Male hormones in the body can make the skin oilier than normal , thus causing breakouts on areas like the face, back, upper back chest, and arms.
  • Skin Darkening: Dark or black/brown patches of skin can occur in body creases like those on the neck, nape, and underarms, under the breasts, and in the groin.
  • Headaches: Imbalanced Hormones can incite headaches in some women.

What if PCOD is not being treated before going for Laser Hair Removal Treatment?

As mentioned, that some women tend to grow excessive facial and body hair when suffering from PCOD. However, there are people unable to realize the actual cause of the condition may be PCOD or hiruitism, and they still pursue the laser hair removal treatment to get the dense forest shredded.

But does the Laser Hair Removal Work on women with PCOD, PCOS stimulated hair growth? Let’s have a look

Does Laser Hair Removal Work for PCOS?

Yes, laser hair removal works for females who have suffered an increase in hair growth because of Polycystic Ovarian Disease (PCOD). Now that you all know PCOD has a hair-raising effect on the body’s natural hormone levels and that enormous hair growth is often a straight outcome of this condition, many cases of PCOD can achieve outstanding outcomes from laser hair removal treatment. Not only an apparent reduction in excessive hair growth on face and body can be achieved quickly from this treatment but can also offer life changing advantages for those whose self-confidence has been smashed to smithereens as an output of this condition.

But understand that  you have an undiagnosed hormonal irregularity issue. We assume majority of the women reading this probably has PCOD, but what if you get done the laser hair removal treatment just for all of the hair to return months later? The laser treatments for conditions in PCOD are successful only for a short span of time. For all you know next, your female beard has returned! Or the under belly seems like a grassland. It’s not impossible that you could have an underlying issue causing the huge hair growth that won’t resolve until you get the right treatment plan for it.

For example, diagnosed with idiopathic hirsutism and not on hormonal therapy during laser or first session could not only delay the laser hair reduction results but also call for increased number of top-up sessions. However, if you are undergoing a fix for hormonal imbalance, your recent laser hair removal sessions would last much longer because of hormones now being under control. That said, even Obesity, Diabetes, or Thyroid problems without the correct medications could all lead to laser hair removal being less effective.

Although results from laser for hair removal treatment for many can be thrilling, but still they do need to be maintained on a regular basis to keep up the permanent reduction in hair growth. Top up or follow-up sessions may be needed every 3 to 4 months indefinitely (particularly for facial hair growth). It is all-vital to understand however that though laser will not give a 100% result in permanent reduction/removal of hair growth amongst PCOD patients, hairs will get visibly lighter, finer and much slower to re-grow.

There may be some wondering if lasers are capable of  reducing the facial and body hair growth for those suffering with PCOD or hiruitism, then why is it that there needs a regular maintenance or top-up laser treatments.

Why Do I Need So Many Laser Sessions With PCOD/PCOS?

Firstly, since Laser cannot influence internal hormone imbalances within the body and that it works on the dermis, there remain certain limitations as to what it can achieve for PCOD hair growth.

Secondly, With PCOD, hair growth is resilient and resolute. So, being hair growth consistently taking place, it becomes necessary to have regular maintenance sessions to keep the laser’s good work going forward. The advanced medical grade lasers however do the best possible to achieve effective and safe results for women with PCOD.

Once the good-enough reduction/elimination in hair growth has been achieved, (after a number of laser treatments) results will necessitate to be maintained. As everyone’s hormone profile varies, the frequency and time gap of these sessions will depend on the individual. Larger body areas with hair growth may needs less frequent maintenance sessions but you should be prepared for facial hair that will require to be maintained on an 8-12 week cycle.

What can be done to treat PCOD before anyone goes for Laser Hair Removal?

If planning to get done laser treatment for hair removal, it will be quite useful for people suffering with PCOD, other hormonal related problems or hair-inducing issues to take an appropriate treatment plan beforehand for better results and much lesser sessions.

Here is a quick look-up on what you can do to control and curb PCOD before the LHR treatment.

Diet and lifestyle to treat PCOS:

The most common treatment for PCOS generally begins with lifestyle changes like diet, workouts and weight management.

By losing just 7 to 10 % of your body weight can help control your menstrual cycle and dwindle the signs of PCOD. Weight loss can further improve lower insulin, cholesterol levels, risk of diabetes, and heart disease.

Some diets have advantages over others when comparing for PCOD. It is found that low-carbohydrate diets are very favorable for both controlling insulin levels and weight. A low glycemic index (low-GI) diet that receives most carbohydrates from whole grains, fruits, and vegetables, helps improvingly regulate the menstrual cycle than a regular weight loss diet.

A 30-minute of moderate-intensity exercise at least three days a week can help females with PCOD lose weight. Losing weight with a proper workout regime also improves ovulation.

Remember, Exercise gets even more advantageous when combined with a healthy diet, not just for PCOD but in general too. Diet plus exercise aids in shedding more weight than either intrusion alone, and it also lowers your risks for heart disease and diabetes.

Common medical treatments:

Birth control pills and other medicines are useful in regulating the menstrual cycle and treat PCOD symptoms like hair growth and acne outbreaks.

Birth control

Ingesting progestin and estrogen daily or as prescribed by health care provider can help restore a normal hormonal balance, modulate ovulation, alleviate symptoms like excess hair growth, and protect against endometrial cancer. These hormones come in form of a pill, patch, or vaginal ring.

Clomiphene (Clomid) is a fertility drug that can make women with PCOD get pregnant. Howbeit, the risk for twins and other multiple births get bigger.

Metformin (Fortamet, Glucophage) is a medicine used to treat type-2 diabetes and PCOD by restoring a normal menstrual cycle and improving insulin levels.

Hair removal medicines

Some treatments can help get rid of unwanted hair or stop it from growing. Eflornithine (Vaniqa) gel is a prescription drug that can disrupt hair growth.

If none other treatments work, Surgery may be an option to improve fertility for PCOD patients. Ovarian drilling is an operation that creates tiny holes in the ovary with a laser or thin heated needle to re-attain normal ovulation.

Laser Hair Removal Cost

Laser removal techniques are becoming quite common in India. Both, gents and ladies are adopting the method, to avoid unwanted hairs from their body part be it chin, chest, armpit, thighs, back anywhere. But, a general question keeps coming to every one’s mind who is a prospective client for laser removal or has under gone it, that is the therapy costly? If not, does it really last longs and effective?

Laser Hair Removal Cost in India, particularly Delhi region

Laser Hair Removal Cost depends on various factors, like area of treatment, type of laser used, type of skin and hair to be treated, number of sessions to be carried on.

Area of treatment- The area which the patient wants to be treated is the most important factor in determining the cost. Larger areas of the body are charged higher than small patches as it takes more time. For example, on an average, treating a thigh region takes 30-40 minutes.

Skin and Hair Types – The density, thickness, and length of the hair and the skin types and shades play an important role in determining the method and overall cost of treatment.

Standard of clinic – The total cost of the treatment also depends on the standard and quality of the clinic to get the treatment. There are various clinics and hospitals that provide laser treatment in Delhi region and cost of the treatment varies from clinic to clinic.

Number of sessions – The cost of the entire treatment is divided into a number of sessions which is priced differently. It is important for patients to take note of the number of sessions which they would need to complete the treatment. On an average, 5-6 sessions are conducted, but in few cases, this may go up to 8 as well, which again increases the cost.

Laser hair removal center in India across metro cities keep their price very competitive and charges:

  • For under arms Rs. 1000 – Rs. 3000
  • Full Body (Single Session): Rs. 7,500 – Rs. 15,000
  • Full Body (Six Sessions): Rs. 45,000 – Rs. 1,40,000
  • For a full facial hair removal charges vary from: Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 4,500
  • For male chest area it is approximately: Rs. 3,500 – Rs. 4,500
  • For female bikini area: Rs. 2,500 – Rs. 5,000
  • Full legs and thighs hair removal: Rs. 4000 to Rs. 8,000
  • Full arms laser hair removal: Rs. 3,500 to Rs. 7,000

Several clinics offer bundled packages which considerably brings down the cost per session.

Some of the places provide free consultation, others charge a marginal fee of Rs. 500 for the consultation and subsequently design the course of treatment depending upon the number of days and the session required to remove the unwanted hair. Many centers have also tied up with financing company to provide an easy EMI option to the patients to avoid the one-time pinch in the pocket.

Following are few points to keep in mind, in order to avoid a one-time pinch on pocket, while undergoing laser hair removal.

  • Visit a certified derma clinic and do proper research as to what type of skin you have and how much session of sittings and what type of laser equipment will be used to do the laser hair removal. A proper consultation with the dermatologist is a must, who will clearly tell the time required and the expense involved. Pricing typically depends upon factors like, overall quality of the service and all the procedures being conducted by licensed, trained and certified medical practitioners.
  • Choose a good package or payment system where one has the option of paying in installments rather than going for a one-time settlement. The patient should also look out for all the hidden charges and what all facilities are being covered under the package. Most of the times doctor provides post-treatment and pre-treatment consultation free of cost, but at some places these are also charged. There are clinics which also pay certain discounts when few things are bundled and hence the person should be aware of that as well. Also, the lager area like the male back or thighs require an intensive laser therapy which requires more time as well as more sittings, these lager areas of laser removal must be done in installments.
  • There might be an after-therapy cost involved or so-called maintenance cost, for which the patients should have calculated and have made proper provisions for the expenditure involved. Although, there are no fixed results when dealing with a biological process, such as body hair growth. However, Clients may expect 70-80 percent reduction over 6-10 sessions which is great, with some stubborn areas needing periodic maintenance, hence additional sessions might be required.
  • Lastly, one should not fall in the trap of big discounts, because this is a critical area where a expert in dermatology and hair removal with laser techniques is required, and just considering the low cost and going for cheap one, might give an awful result. Lower prices often signal that some resources are being compromised. The machines may be outdated, the service providers may not be trained, or licensed. Another important consideration which is worth taking into account is the sterilization and hygiene practices, if not sufficient, can lead to serious consequences.

Laser hair removal techniques are one of the best techniques to get rid of unwanted hair and the hassle of saving it daily. No doubt this is a one-time investment, but the returns on the investment is also huge, providing comforts. An average person shaves daily or waxes weekly, calculating the total time and energy and required materials for all these sums up surprisingly much higher than the average cost of a lifetime of laser hair removal.

There is apprehension in the mind of people that this therapy might have negative impacts on the skin and the hair. But, this is completely wrong as it is one of the most advanced, clinically safe and widely accepted method for permanent hair removal. The reason behind ongoing popularity of laser hair removal is long lasting and promising results. However, the laser hair removal cost and notions associated with the laser treatment are the main reason that people hesitate to go for laser hair removal. The most common hindrance between the laser treatment and a person willing for it to undergo, is always the question “how much does full body laser hair removal cost?”

The prices are indicative of the prices in Delhi/NCR region.

Experience Shared: What it’s really like to get laser hair removal on your vagina

Laser hair removal is a permanent solution to unwanted hair in any body part. Before discussing the core of the topic, let’s start by discussing-

Why the hair removal at the first place and how it helped me in achieving my self-esteem?

All throughout, my high school days I used to be an athlete and a member of school Basketball team and I loved myself in the team’s Basketball jersey. Basketball jerseys are usually sleeveless unless you play in some cold countries. As much as I enjoyed flaunting my jersey, at the same time, there was something I didn’t feel good about while out on the court. I used to be conscious all the time  about my thick, black armpit hair showing out there, during the basketball games. While I know that some people are confident enough to grow out their body hair, however, as a teen, I wasn’t as confident. Because of my insecurity and lowered self-esteem, my mother scheduled an appointment with laser hair removal clinic and helped me to get rid of hair on my armpits and upper lip as I turned 16. My mother had gotten a few laser hair removal treatments done herself, therefore, she was aware of the benefits of the laser fix. And, this really helped me after the treatment as I did not have not to think of my hair exposing, instead I focused on improving my game.

Who are good candidate for hair removal through laser techniques?

I am a female with light complexion skin, and I have thick, dark hair all over my body. A light complexion makes even slightest amount of hair more visible to the eyes as the fair skin acts as a perfect white background for the dark hair, such as, in my case. And therefore, my case is a perfect example for hair laser removal, as waxing and shaving increases the hair growth and looks ugly over a period of time. The derma laser center goes through a thorough check-up in order to examine the type of skin and the suited laser techniques as there are many ways of carrying out laser hair removal. And, hence every laser treatment should be initiated with an in-depth consultation with the doctor.

Most laser hair removal clinic follow the standard protocol to decide candidates who are not suitable for laser hair removal, that includes a set of questions to be answered for example, pregnancy related questions, past medical history, history of melanoma, raised moles, hives, tattoos, actives herpes, or any ongoing unhealthy medical condition.

To break down into simpler words, the ideal candidates are people who have pale, light, fair or wheatish complexion and dark hair. Unfortunately, due to lack of melanin, people with blonde, red, or grey hair aren’t ideal candidates.

However, if this description of ideal candidate doesn’t fit you, always go in for a consultation before giving up because you never know, as there are many types of laser machines and techniques, which might suites the person.

Now coming to the burning question, “How was my first appointment and treatment session of laser hair removal on my vagina?” When I went in for my first treatment, I wanted to get rid of all my pubic hair, I wanted to go completely bare instead of a slight bikini trim.  The night before I had my first treatment session, I was asked to shave my vagina and the perineal area as well, because that was part of my vagina laser hair removal session. The standard protocol advised prior to laser hair removal is that all patients should shave within 12 hours of his or her treatment and refrain from plucking or waxing six weeks prior to their every treatment session.

The clinic I went to didn’t allow a numbing treatment on the first session. Instead, they applied a cool gel on my vaginal area. Surprisingly, I didn’t feel pain or anything sort of it on my first treatment, only a slight prick every time they lasered my hair. With newer technologies and advancement, there are absolutely pain-free laser systems available such as Smooth-pulse hair removal system. So, if it’s your first time and you are apprehensive about the pain, then do a research and check with your clinic to see if they use that system.

The second time I got laser hair removal, I purposely didn’t opt for the numbing gel, so I could feel everything. I could usually tolerate the pain, but during that treatment, the heat and the rubber-like snapping of the laser made me to pause twice during the session. By the third time, I made sure to use the numbing gel, and it went all smooth and pain-free.

The first time I got laser hair removal on my vagina, it felt like mild bruising. While it was totally fine for me to use the bathroom, it felt like I had worked out that part of my body and therefore it was sore. The second and third time, there was more redness because of enhance levels of treatment in subsequent sessions and a bit of scabbing as my hair was trying to grow back out.

Later, I came to know from my therapist is that bruising, scabbing, and redness may occur which are commonly occurring side effects. Other side effects include injury to the epiderma, swelling, blistering, hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation and in rare cases there may be textural changes in the skin- crusting, scabbing, or scarring.

Initial days, after the laser treatment, hair grows as the burnt hairs try to come out, but there is nothing to worry about seeing hair after you just removed it. Even though you’ll get an urge to shave it, avoid doing so. Gradually, after every treatment, the hair will thin and come out less. For me, once the burned hairs came out, I didn’t have to shave my vagina area until about three or four weeks.

One should also avoid sex for at least 24 hours after treatments as there is down time related with the laser treatment and the body takes its own time to heal.

Are the results, worth taking the pain and the pinch on the pocket?

Since, I only got four treatment sessions for my vaginal hair growth, my hair still grows down there and I do have to shave it when I really have to. However, I have noticed that my hair now is comparatively thinner and less in density as to what it used to be before I went for laser fix. And, now it takes longer for the hair to grow back, especially in my groin area. On an average, people start seeing definite results after 8 to 12 sessions. The more the number of sessions, the better the results will be.

So, after all the pain, I can without any doubt say that I am glad I chose laser hair removal on my vagina, as it is more comfortable, lesser messier and clean. All I have to say to girls who do not enjoy working up a razor down there, go for laser hair fix and feel confident and happy about being a woman without any hassle.

This week Kim mentioned on her website that she once used to have dense baby hair on her hairline which she was not very enamored of and so she got them lasered off.

The adverts these days are aimed at laser, supposedly because they do wonders to make you look feather-soft and hair-free. Laser is surely permanent and potentially competent to keep you bald, bold and beautiful in the nether regions and of course wherever else you wish. Laser just can reach to the farthest, the lowest of a body zone, specifically with allusion to the underworld. Khloe’s recent bare Instagram photo gives some serious hair removal goals to all the girls. Kim Kardashian with her outlandish appearance stands out from other star figures. But is it really necessary for women to be all shaven and hairless to look appealing? Well that’s something related to choice-making.

Kylie Jenner

And now she came up with acute nostalgia for days of her baby hair perhaps seeing her little sissy Kylie Jenner flaunting them like a HOTSHOT. 13 Times the Kardashians Have Proved They Despise Body Hair

Hair- Hair everywhere! Yes you heard it right and here we are going to just talk about hair, either it’s about caressing them, shunning them or just discussing them. We understand that there are still whole lots of people who are too reluctant to talk about hair removal processes publicly. The butt obvious is that it feels embarrassed. But the kardashians-Jenners have taken the internet world by storm. They are not leaving any loops to upgrade the fans with fashionable hair removal treatments and cracking it up all over the social media.

“Kardashians you slay us, you really do”.

Kendall, Kim, Kylie, Kourtney and especially the always-outspoken Khloe Kardashian in an effort to break down the ineffable body hair removal thesis, have come forth to vocalize their experiences live with the fans and haters too. The Kardashian girls have brought the magic of contouring and cut-outs into spotlight and they are the sole reason behind collapsing the wall of shame for body hair. Kim Kardashian is clearly heard saying in an interview that she has the hairiest forehead that most people would in fact fail to visualize seeing the latest HER. If you Google Kim Kardashian’s image of 2008-2009, you would clear spot the difference. The popular reality TV star and mother of two is not at all hesitant about bringing her laser treatments in open and accedes to wax off her plentiful hair by herself while she was young.

Khloe Kardashian

As per a post, Kourtney seemingly gave her sister Khloe a bikini wax on her chaise lounge and Kylie Snapchat her upper lip wax. She backed her Snapchat action stating that people should be courageous enough to tell their groomer what they exactly want and I do this all the time. Not only has she talked about her craziest hairline, but also of her shaving under shower. Her younger sister Khloe went on to declare how she used laser treatment to beautify her bikini zone, under arms and legs. She also mentioned that her urge to shave off instigated when she was only 7 and saw Kim razing her legs under the shower. Robert Kardashian, allegedly got his chest waxed and is seen spotting the hunk look while Kendall shaving her legs in rear car seat for fashion week. Isn’t this too cool for the HOT Kardashians?

There always comes a season of shorts in every girl’s life when she plunders into stealing her mother’s trimmer and get the nasty hair ripped off. Unfortunately this is not a permanent solution and the hair keeps getting brittle in sequential growth. Thankfully, we have the Kardashians furiously trending over the social sites. The sexy lads get feisty saying that they laser, they shave, they wax, they bleach and they just do it. They spoke about body hair upfront and suggest laser treatment to deal with the issue conveniently.

Bare and bald is undoubtedly the passing fancy of the times and the credit goes to the one and only Kardashians.

How Long Laser Hair Removal Last

Experience shared

Laser hair removal provides long lasting results. While some individuals may see 100% reduction in hair growth, most people see anywhere from 70-90% reductions. Annual maintenance visits will ensure that the last bit of re-growth is eliminated, leaving you with smooth, hair free skin year round. Laser hair removal is also non-invasive, unlike other permanent hair removal options, and takes only minutes to treat larger treatment sites. Hair falls out on its own, and there is no need to individually remove each hair, making the procedure painless, effective, and quick.

Should you have more questions regarding the results, costs, or risks of laser hair removal, schedule a consultation.

Is Laser Hair Removal Safe During Pregnancy

During pregnancy, we would never advise our clients to undergo laser hair removal treatment. Although we use the preferred industry standard laser for hair removals used worldwide and till date there has been no scientific proof that the laser used for hair removal is bad or harmful for the foetus but still we also take into account that there is no evidences as well to support that they are completely safe.

At the time of pregnancy, women love their hair (skull hair) the most, because they feel as if their hair has become stronger and fuller. During pregnancy period, your hair become actually stronger and your hair feels shinier and thicker, like never before.  Hair fall problems seem to be non-existent during this phase of life. Normally, you lose almost 100 hairs in a single day while brushing or shampooing and to fill in the loss of hair it is replaced with new hair growth. There are three cycles of hair growth

  • Anagen i.e. The active phase of growing
  • Catagen i.e. The resting phase
  • Telogen i.e. The phase when hair sheds

During pregnancy the first phase i.e. The Anagen phase stays for long because of the increase in Estrogen level in the body. Women at times even notices that the texture of their hair has changed, for e.g. curly hair may become straight or your dry looking hair may appear to be shinier.

Sadly, when you are experiencing and enjoying the best hair days, you may even get a shock seeing the hair growth on your face, stomach, breasts and back of the body. Erratic hormonal changes in the body during pregnancy are responsible for this sudden hair growth on your body.  Although you have undergone laser hair removal treatment before pregnancy, still you may experience new hair growth as a result of hormonal changes and not instead of the removed hairs. All these hormonal changes in the body become normal again after the delivery.

Our female clients are usually very curious to know whether laser hair treatment during pregnancy is safe or not. We understand their concern about their baby’s health and development. For the safety of both mom to be and the baby we usually advise our clients to wait till their delivery for the laser hair removal treatment.

During pregnancy, we would never advise our clients to undergo laser hair removal treatment. We do treat our clients who are trying to conceive, but at the same time we request them to inform us about their pregnancy soon as they get to know.

If you are disturbed because of the excessive hair growth on the body during pregnancy, then in such case you must opt for a temporary solution. Once you have delivered the baby safely, then laser hair removal treatment can be started if you opt not to breastfeed. If you choose to breastfeed, then we will advise you to wait for an extra 6 months and after stopping breastfeeding you can resume the laser treatment. The extra 6 month gap helps in settling the hormonal dis-balance.

Every person is different and thus not all women will experience the same changes during pregnancy. But the body relaxes and returns to its normal self after the delivery. Skin and hair related problems, if any, can later on be addressed with calmness once you are back to normal.
